ive got a non turbo 77 924, and its got a problem with the tube that connects the engine to the transmission - the transfer tube i think is what its called. i know how difficult it is to try and describe a noise using text, but it just sounds like one of the bearings in the tube is shot and its making a really loud screetching noise. my question is that is this a normal problem that you guys hear of alot? and also where i can source a new set of bearings (i plan on replacing all 3 bearings in the tube) and maybe a price estimate? is there any other problem that could be causing the screetching noise? i only hear it when the wheels are spinning, makes no difference if the clutch is in or out and the noise almost immediately stops when i take my foot off of the accelerator.
thank you |

If its the torque tube bearings you will hear it when the tube is spinning.
You should hear it in neutral and the clutch would make a difference.
If you only hear it when the wheels are spinning then I'd look at the CV's or more likely the rear axles and bearings or brakes.
If it is the torque tube you are looking at a trans or engine out job.
Bearings are sourced at any bearing shop. CBC, SKF.etc. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
