Has anyone every done a complete interior swap? By that I mean taking one 924's interior and putting it in another 924?

Im sort of in a dilema. I recently bought a 924 which has a vortec engine conversion done to it. This 924's interior is really nice. The problem is, the vortec has a cracked block, and it also has an aftermarket wiring harness in it. (also, the stock engine mounts are cut out)

My stock 924 has a cruddy interior, and has 150,000 miles more than the vortec conversion car. I think the easiest thing would be to take the interior from the vortec and stick it in my stock 924. But, how hard is it to do that?

The reason I ask is because I am at a loss of which car to keep really. Im pretty sure I want the stock na motor, but each car needs a considerable ammount of work to get a nice car. The car with the vortec has an aftermarket wiring harness which I think would be a mess to sort out. Also I would have to fabricate new mounts for the stock na motor. But the stock 924 has way more wear and tear on the body and interior ect.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ryan

Swapping out everything but the dash and the headliner is an easy weekend task. I've done a few....

Paul was kind enough to help me get an entire interior from a 944 a few years ago, which I swapped into my 924. Didn't take long and was very, very easy. Also give you a chance to go over all the wiring connections and grounding spots, clean up some loose ends. I'd say go for it.

The hardest part will be the rugs. Especially the rears. My 944 were glued on as were another set I got for free and did not come loose without ripping them. Also the rear fender covers are glued.
Hey, good luck on the project.
As for all the trim it is screwed on and should be no prob. Some vinyl trim is glued on.

Hmm. I think this maybe the easiest thing for me to do.

I would probably replace the dash, and headliner if possible.

This is such a hard choise, because there is nothing wrong with the car with the vortec mod, except it has the wrong engine, engine mounts, and wiring harness. It also has only 30,000 miles, and its a one owner car.

What would you guys do in my situation? I am definately going to rebuild the stock engine, so the question is, which car to keep?

Put another vortec in. If it's only the engine that's bad and all the rest of the tough work has been done on the conversion, you'll have an extremely fast 924 when you're finished. You can easily pick up parts to redo the interior on the other car. What color is the bad interior?

The only problem I had swapping interiors from an 82 944 into mine was that the door panels didnt snug up because the cardboard backing was slightly different, all I had to do was cut some of it out to make it fit, looks good though.

The bad interior is all black, with black and white inlays (or w/e they are called) on the seats. I have cheapo seat covers on it right now tho.

I think you need to realy consider putting the Vortec together. You should be able to find a good low milage 4.3L out of a blazer then just yank the entire wire harness from the engine and install a Megasquirt with prebuilt harness. You can get rid of the MAF sensor too for easier plumbing. This is NOT that hard. I would also think it would be less work than converting it back to stock.

The stock one would be easiest with just the interior swap but is this the car you really want to end up with? Only you can answer that.

Endwrench, its definately hard. I keep going back and forth on which to keep. At the moment, Im thinking of an interior swap, then selling the vortec to someone who has the skills to make it a nice car. Then I would have some money to do euro pistons and maybe a camshaft. Sounds stupid I know, but I'd rather the vortec conversion be in someones hands who won't eff it up.

2.0 liters vs 4.3 liters.

Expensive parts vs cheap parts

slow vs fast

The 4.3s are not all that amazing. 155hp and 240 lbs ft. That's my friends S-10 anyway. I guess better than 120hp... though considering their size, 4.3s are horribly inefficient.

BTW, I guess it's not that much of a shame to put an engine like that in a 924, since it's not a reeaaal Porsche.

JB, this isnt the same engine as your friends. I decided to go with the vortec after all. Im going to do a little more to the white 924, and sell it, and buy a shortblock with the money I make.
