|
|
I picked up some Weltmeister 250 lb springs. I didn't realize they were progressive, does anyone know which way is up when they are installed? They look like the picture below. Do the more open coils get installed facing down as in the picture? This would make sense to me.

I have the compressed springs on the bottom. There may be an argument for having them on the top, as it would be slightly less unsprung weight (lots of coils moving at the bottom, as opposed to fewer coils moving at the bottom). I don't really think it matters though! _________________ 1980 931S

The way you have them installed makes sense when you consider the writing printed on the springs would be the right way up with the compressed springs on the bottom. I was never much good at Physics, but I just assumed it made a difference which way they went in. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Many moons ago, when I put progressive springs in my old Bimmer, we installed them the way they're pictured in your first post, with the tight coils at the top.
Never really thought about why. As I recall, it's just the way the supplier said to put them in... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I have some of those springs installed on my 931 chassis, the tight coils are on top. I got the car with them installed that way.

Not to hijack the thread, but should I install a pair of these while my front suspension is apart?
The options are:
- 220 lbs Stock Height Springs
- 200 lbs Performance Springs (Lowers Car About 1.25 Inches)
- 250 lbs Autocross Springs (Lowers Car About 1.5 Inches)

I called paragon and left them a message & my number.
I called back a few minutes later and talked to Chuck
and he said it doesnt matter you can put them in either way
though if you put one side one way the other side has to be the same
other than that... either way doesnt matter.

Guess I'm a lil late, but I have the 250# 1.5" lowering springs and I put the tight coils near the top.
I don't think it matters which way though. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Of course it's entirely up to you depending on what you want to do with the car.
I put in a set of the 220lb stock height springs - mainly to fix a front tire rubbing problem on turns with 911 Fuchs wheels...those springs along with a stiffer stabilizer bar are what got the job done. They're not as long as the OE springs, so once you get the OE springs compressed and out, you no longer need to use a spring compressor (the 220lb springs are loose in the strut assembly when it's reassembled - until you have them back on the car and the car back on the ground). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. a friend of mines installed progressive springs on his corrado with the tight coils down and when he hits a bump or smth they make a crappy noise...so i think they should be installed with the tight coils upwards. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Every set of stock progressive springs I have put in (many!) always called for the tighter coils on top. I don't know why either. JMTC
