Are there any compatibility issues with ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid and ordinary DOT3/4 fluid? Do lines have to be drained and flushed with alcohol?

Thanks,

Ed

+1

I use it in my GTi and my 88 924S with no issues. I just added it to the master cylinder and flushed it through with a power bleeder.

There actually is a compatability issue with the GTI. Its been more audi related (A4s and TTs)but the superblue damages seals in the clutch system. Some symptoms are a squeaky clutch pedal. I use the ATE typ200 in my 924s with no problems. I just dont like the fact that the whole system gets dyes with the superblue.

Good point, I forgot about that. I have no issues at this point, and the blue stuff will be flushed with typ200 in March.

ATE typ200? What are the characteristics of this fluid?

Isn't the SuperBlue supposed to have a higher boiling point than average brake fluid?

Ed

Typ 200 is the DOT approved non blue version of the superblue. It has the same properties as the blue stuff except for the dye.

Most quality 'racing' brake fluid will have published or advertised boiling points. That's really the key. Any temps listed on that Prestone bottle?

I had to buy some of that for my GTI the other day when I wore through a front brake line. It had a boling point slightly higher than standard DOT 4 fluids. Its kind of like the Valvoline Synpower fluid, or Castrol LMA, a little better than DOT4 for about the same price.

As much as I hate Motul, they have a wonderful racing fluid they call 300v. Its boiling point exceeds any I have found thus far and is completely compatable with all makes of cars. Its kinda pricy though.
