Hi,
I am a new member from down under in Sydney Australia.I have a 1978 911SC,1984 944 ,1971 alfa romeo 1300GT junior and a replica Lancia Stratos which is for sale - to make way for a 924 Carrera GT.
Looking for any background on an RS version of the 1978 924.Ithink it was a local (germany) spec. There was a GULF-Porsche historic racer sold recently on race-car .com ,and as I am building a classic rally car for our targa tarmac rallies I thought it would make an interesting replica.
I have seen nothing on this spec in print.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Craig |

Welcome.
Are you talking about the two rally cars that were built based on the GTS? There's a picture of one of them at 924.org (link above) in the models section. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the reply.
This 924 was a 1978 historic race car, refurbished in 2004 for the German Classic Trophy series in Gulf colours, and was posted for sale through race-direct.com.
The only other reference I have found on the web is a road car in Germany that has been restored, but very litte else to go with it.
I am pretty familiar with the GTs and GTS variants ,but this looks like a series production racer where local rules applied.
Regards

Ok, next guess is that the "RS" might have been a factory-prepared or factory-sponsored set of cars for a one-model race series. There was a few 924-only race series back in the early years of the car.
A quick scan of the "bible" (Porsche 924 by Brian Long) reveals no mention of an RS.
Any idea if the RS was a turbo or NA engine?
If you're going to do a narrow-body replica for tarmac events my favorite would be the SCCA cars
Have you seen some of the pics of Simon's UK race car? It is sooooo good.

See, there's nothing wrong with a 60mm rear sway bar!

Simon always thinks it's a drifting championship, not a sprint!!!
Now if only he concentrated a bit more and stopped showing off, he could do so well. I don't know how many times he's been told there are no points for artistic impression. The lad show's promise but he just can't keep his mind on the game. Silly silly man.
And as for his Evel Knievel/ Elvis in the bad Vegas years type sequined and gold racing catsuit, with the cuban heeled race boots, well best we don't go there. |

Looks good - I was surprised it was a production model-16 I think.
Interesting tarmac car. |
