|
|
I have gotten the front bushings out of the control arms, but am having trouble getting the rear bushing off. Does the bushing have metal that goes around the control arm, kind of like a metal sleeve?
Thanks, _________________ Rob

I just went through this. I had a shop press them on/off and they said it was a pain -

I saw that post while searching. I wonder if a bearing puller would do it...I'll find out this weekend. _________________ Rob

I've used a geear splitter to grab the inner metal sleeve and then a hyd. press to push the arm out. _________________ Vaughan Scott

I tried a gear puller and just bent the metal, while pushing the control arm. The metal sleeve seems to be rusted/corroded onto the control arm rod. I'll keep working on it though. _________________ Rob

Yeah; depending on condition it may come off in more than one piece! _________________ Vaughan Scott

I used a grinder with cut-off wheel to cut through the metal sleeve. Then I used a screw driver to get the sleeve off. I only made very minor scratches on the post. Now if I can only get the rivets off for the ball joint... _________________ Rob

drill them out, first with a 2mm pilot bit then the rest with a 5mm bit IIRC... the head should just pop off when you get the right size bit...
Make sure you center the pilot bit well, the rivot are quite hard metal too.

I usually use an air chisel on the rivets, easy to pop the heads off, just be careful to not damage the arm. _________________ Vaughan Scott
