Hi
I haven't posted here for a while. Good to be back!
My 924 NA has the habit of heating the oil exaggeratedly with fast driving.
The water temp stays ok but the oil temp gauge reaches the max temp (150ºC).
On normal driving it varies within 90ºC to 110ºC (I consider it normal temperature) but on fast highway driving (140km/h or 80mph upwards) or fast mountain road driving it heats up very quickly.
Once I made a 10km (7 miles) of a highway at 200km/h (120mph) and the oil gauge went through the roof (>150ºC)
Is this normal?
Thanks for the help!
Best regards!

150C? Woah, that's way too hot!!! Sounds like you'd better get an oil cooler on there...
My racecar, with oil cooler, usually runs 105-115C in the hot days. Highest I've seen it get to is maybe 125-130C. That's outside temp of 95F (35C), running basically close to full-throttle for 20-minute periods, average lap speed of 65mph (top speed of 85mph). Revs between 3000-6000rpm, never lower.
I'm using an 8x11" cooler from Racer Parts Wholesale, very happy with it. Installation details are shown on my webpage... _________________ Vaughan Scott

That's hot! Sure you got the right sender for the gauge? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

I've never checked the sender because the gauge always worked ok since I've bought the car...
But the reading on normal driving is ok. So I guess the rules out the sender.
My car is totally stock. Do you think that I really need an oil cooler or is there someting wrong?
I never rebuilt the engine (just replaced the head gasket once...) and it has around 100k miles on the clock...
What should I check to cure this overheating?

I didn't think the 924's came with an oil temp guage. I thought that would be an add-on. That's why I asked about the sender because I know you can get mismatched when adding a gauge and sender.
What's the water temp reading when the oil gets this hot? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Yeah, I forgot about that. My console has oil temp, oil pressure and clock gauges. Most of Euro models 924 I've found are like that.
I've noticed that a lot of US 924 have the Volt meter instead of the oil temp...
The water temp indicator sits ond 2nd mark (the mark before the midle of the gauge...). _________________ 1969 Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior

Helpful if you'd put in your location since it's sometimes difficult to tell if someone is here in the states or across the pond. Tough to hear those accents through the keyboard. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Hello,
also over the pond !?
My 4 / 1977 NA in germany has all the gauges and the clock as standard.
Oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, volt meter and clock.
Jpv, what you discribe is normal to my car also. When the water temp stays ok there isnt much to worry. After a fast run on the autobahn its normal that the oil pressure is on the down side and the warning light is coming on in the dash.(Engine in idle) But ! That should go away quickly when driving in normal traffic condidions.Check youre gauge while driving.
It depends also a little bit on the oil youre using, if you use ow-50 you want see that high readings, but, i wouldt stay with the usual 15w40 stuff. Its best for normal, daily driving.
There are some reports over cleaning a part in/at the oil pump in the board but i never did that till now....?!

I'd love to see a picture of all those gauges. Where are they located on the stock euro model? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

The clock is mounted in the dash pad? I'm confused. There's only three holes in the center console. Where's the other two gauges go?
By water temp, are speaking of the multi guage or a stand alone water temp gauge?
Sorry to be so inquisitive. I'm just curious how the euro came with 5 gauges and the US only came w/the one oil pressure guage. I'd like to add a couple more like oil temp and water temp and looking for ideas where to mount them.
Any pics you can email to me?

But that's not a stock-from-the-factory mounting position, is it? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

No, not in my case. Me and my trusty hole saw made that one. There's not much room behind there, but the A:F gauge is very shallow, and is probably the only one of my gauges that'd fit there easily without altering stuff behind. _________________ "..it's made in Germany.
