This morning I was told I would be picking up a 944 Turbo.
When I got there with the trailer, it didn't look right...here's what I got:

According to the VIN on the windshield, this is a 1982 924 NA. It has some kind of blower attached to the air intake and switch on the dash. The racing seat, steering wheel and harness were stolen recently. The race wheels are missing the center pieces and have no lug nuts.

I will look more closely at all this in the morning...

Definitely a 924 n/a.. It has 951 front fenders/fascia and 944 rear arches, but thats where any of the 944 turbo similarities end.

I hope you didn't pay 944 Turbo price for it? Otherwise they owe you about 100 horsepower..

Luckily, I have not paid anything - I picked it up for a friend, and he even paid for the gas and dinner tonight. He paid $2,750 US for it 2 years ago.

I am only out the $50 for the trailer rental so far. He has no idea what he bought 2 years ago - and other than a minor tune-up, it has been sitting under a carport in PA for a while.

Obviously a 924. You can tell from the length of the headlight covers.

951s are longer.

Interesting, a sheep in wolf's clothing.

Is that rear fiberglass bumper one-piece with the rear quarters? Very neat. Someone put some money into that car at one point.

Electric supercharger?

Aside from the obvious lack of '44 turbo engine, that looks like a nice conversion job!

Drop a V8 into it instead

Yeah, all bark and no bite!! LOL

Well, if all that stuff's fiberglass, maybe she'll be a lightweight; if so, could be a good tool to go race lightweight in the 944 Cup. They're based in the VA area, afterall, and if you can get 'er down to 2300lbs or so and put a hot motor and good shocks in, 5lug brakes too, she could probably give some 944's fits with a good shoe at the wheel!

I kinda like the look of it!!! I think the previous owner took both of the cars, and threw out the bad and replaced it with good, in one car!

Yeah - I'm thinking about making an offer to buy it, but when I got it home, there was not a drop of oil in the crankcase, and even after putting 5 quarts of Castrol into it, it will barely turn over with a fresh battery. I can't get it to start - maybe I shouldn't force it at this point.

The supercharger appears to be an electric - the suspension is a full coil-over front and rear, single piston brakes, 17" Borbet Type A rims, drivetrain looks clean - no oil leaks, new stainless exhaust..

But it still has the back seat, A/C system, and power steering, so it most of been used for street driving also.

Guess I need to think about a new engine, heh? Would a 968 NA fit?

I thought the 944S2 came stock with the 3.0 L engine?
It was the first to run the big 3.0L 4cyl.

Only problem is that a USED 3.0L engine is not cheap. Over $3k just for the engine with no ECU or conversion accessories.
