It leaks and ends up dribbling out the hood and down the side
of the fender on the passenger side ofthe hood right behind
the head light cover. its gotten so bad Ive take in it off the road
to pull the motor. It now leaks a quart a day alot of it ends up
on the side & on top of the hood up the windshield of
the car and on the wheels and of course underneath
soaking the belly pan turning it into a catch all. This started in october
I havent been able to pin the leak down ...seems like its the oil pump
or the oil pan the bottem pully area somewhere..the darn bottem pully
picks up the oil and sprays it all over. Anyone have this happen before. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Joe, it may be the oil pump area. Did you clean the engine and then let it idle to identify the exact area? The fan and the belt may be throwing it all over on the place while on the road.I had a leak around the oil pump and between the oil pan cover that leaked a lot of oil.The problem was the pump was slightly out of alignment and the PO did not want to pull the pan to fix it. I was able to pull the pump and reset it without pulling the pan. It took 2 trys . _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

I would start taking it apart tonight except it needs to go to the welder
one of the passenger side door
hinges is loose from the a piller on onw side, that needs to be ground
and prepped before I go though. Mondays project that & cleaning before
the engine bay & car of oil with simple green, then I guess Ill pull it the garage and take it apart. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Yeah, possibly that front cover/oil pump area; also possible cuase for such a leak is maybe crankcase pressure building up, not vented properly, so check to see if that's blocked... HTH... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Has not been smoking out the back though
it wont stay on idle very well
though there's a lot of oil through out the intake sys. and 2 of the plugs
are pretty fouled whilst the other too are quite nice and tan. It leaks oil like a sieve its ugly. Though when I blow thru 5 quarts in a week that's enough to pull it off the road. Quite messy Ill post some pics.
Suppose the pic could be better.. lit.

Joe,
This is what I would say. Your timing may be way too advanced.Retard it a couple of degrees to start.
Look at the last 2 plugs on the right. You have some detonation that may be messing up your rings and that may cause some more oil leaking.
Your plug gap looks huge. Put a fresh plug in #1 and take it for a quick consistant load spin with as little idle time as possible. Post a close up picture for a better look.
Take a picture like this so we can see the ground strap and ring in the same shot

Im back yes Ok the dizzy was off from the
crank pulley, Looks like you guessed right Augidog.
It was in the middle of # 1and #4
though the crank and flywheel were on. So the crank pulley was tight enough & the pulley didnt shear a pin. I have to clean up
Ill be back with some pics
I took pics before I put the plugs
n injectors back then just now I took some of the timing marks
hope they didnt turn out blurry. Ill be back wit the pics.
thanks for the input. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

thenonly reason there gapped is because of the MSDbox
and msd coil... I belive the directions said to gap them big
it ran fine hauled ass as a matter of fact.
Anyway I made it to work on time and made
everyone happy. ... though its the last time it [my-car]
really needs to be taken my employer even sees it
that way [kind of] not by choice
though.
I go to a week long school next week from the 11th to the 15th
and I need to be back on the job on the 18th I got a grand
sitting here guess Ill take the motor apart .... I have this
75 Toyota truck Ive been mess-in with I got the carb apart
cleaned ready & a carb kit for it. I'm gonna drive the truck to a
auto swap-pin trad-en buy-en place and get me something to
drive to work though I was really planning on doing that at the
turn of the year there's lots of cool autos out there that can be
bought for a few grand more. Though I think Ill take my car
apart. though right now we are gonna go shopping as soon as I
get in the shower. I want the block decked and honed. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
