My new toy is finally shifting, got it started and rna it for a few minutes. next time I tried to start it, nothing. I noticed that the timing belt was really sloppy and discovered the belt tightener was finger loose.
Are there any markings on the crank and cam that will allow me to easily get back onto the right timing? I know I wll need to using a timing light to get it right, but I just want to get on the right teeth.
Thanks,

The front crank pulley to oil pump pointer TDC line-up viewed from above (click for larger pic) -
and the cam sprocket TDC mark (the dot at that valley between two teeth) to valve cover pointer line-up -
Your flywheel should have a "0" for TDC that you can use as a more accurate double-check of the crankshafts' TDC position.
When tensioning the belt, rotate the tensioner counterclockwise [to tighten the belt, then tighten the bolt]. You should be able to twist the belt 90 degrees [with your fingers] at the midway point along its' longer side. If it flops it's too loose, if it screams it's too tight. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Thanks for the help, I new there had to be an easy way to line things up without pulling plugs and valve cover to find tdc. _________________ 79 924 project car |
