Hi there:
I have a (what I was told from the previous owner told to be) a low optioned red 1977 and 1/2 924 which has been sitting in my garage up on blocks for 4 years. The fellow I purchased it from several years ago was a bit of a do-it yourselfer (for example, one of his kids hung on the drivers door while it was open and really damaged the hinges and bent some stuff. He then proceeded to weld it himself so there are some very unatractive gobs of weld on the door frame which are letting go) and so on. It is currently not running but should be once I installed the ignition box I have tracked down. The interior is rough. 2 years ago I picked up a 1980 924 which had been in an accident (needs a new hood, 1 drivers lamp and 1 drivers side quarter pannel. The car otherwise is awesome, runs excellent, has the sunroof and power window options and is very clean (interior is excellent).
So to my querry: would you fix the 77 1/2, fix the 1980, (useing one as a parts car for the other) or try and get both running? |

without looking at both I would say fix the '80 and use the other for parts or a project. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

+1, unless you have a need for two cars...you could probably buy another car for the same money it would take to get the '77 even halfway presentable from what you described... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Porsche always inproves the cars as time passes. The 1980 has many small improvements that you can not even see. It would be better to fix the newer car for this reason alone. Never mind that it seems like it is a better car to begin with.
Unless of course the rail in the front that was hit is mush.
Use the 77 as a parts car. _________________ 1982 924

| Fix up the 1980 car. Should be one of the ones where they switched to galvanising the whole shell instead of just the floorpan. Doubly so if someones been badly attacking the thing with the mig gear. |
