Got a question, in the past I have changed the clutch package on a NA 924 by disconnecting the transaxle in the rear, unbolting the bell housing and sliding the tranny and torque tube rear-wards, after removing the exhaust and all of the other items of course; worked pretty well. However, I have an 81 931 that needs a new clutch and after looking underneath I don't think I can do the same thing, as the tranny looks to be much longer. My question is, would it be easier to remove the tranny and everything else to get the clutch or pull the engine, decisions, decisions?

Bill

pull the tranny, its fairly straight forward, and while its out you can examine bushings/etc

Seconded - drop the tranny.

When I changed mine though I had no idea how you (and others) have managed to do it without dropping the tranny...I didn't find any space back there unless i'd made a whole in the spare wheel well.

Good luck

Only the snail trannys have the room to pull the tranny\tube assembly back. The Audi trans are butted up against the spare tire well.

3rd on the trans pull versus the engine.
