i finally gave up and bought a rebuilt fuel distributor..... that solved my
pressure problems and after setting the air-fuel mixture according to
smoothie's excellent instructions the car runs very smooth.
question tho, should i be trying to lean out the mixture as much as i can?
isn't the "turn til injectors spray then back up a half turn" just a starting
point? do i have to now find someone with a CO2 tester? i'd like to get as
good as possible gas mileage, -but still get maximum performance, (need
all i can get lol ) _________________ 78 924

Yes, that was just a starting point.
Doing it with a CO tester would be ideal, but for now, you could just find the midpoint... Turn the adjustment one way to find where it starts running crappei then turn it back the opposite way 'til crappei, then set it at the middle of those two points.
Setting it too lean isn't good because that increases NOx emissions, and causes the engine to run hot. NOx also eats lung tissue. On the rich side, you get more power, but obviously poorer fuel mileage. Closed-loop o2 sensor, 3-way catalytic converter equipped cars need it just a hair past stochiometric (the perfect A:F mix) to the rich side for the cat to perform most efficiently.
-But if you have a functioning EGR system, I -think- you can run it a little bit on the lean side. EGR reroutes NOx from the exhaust back into the intake and by some magic of chemistry this cools combustion and lowers the total NOx output. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. i need to take a better picture, but there is an old one if you follow the www link in
my sig.........the wheels are TSW......note the date on that web page - 2001.....in person
the paint is really amateurish looking, many touch up spots and areas that are different
shades of yellow......one of the PO was a Georgia-Tech fan and had the car painted
yellow, there are runs on the inside of the doors too not sure if i'm gonna paint it yellow
again or change it back to the original silver. not really sure why the lovre's were added
to the front fenders either _________________ 78 924
