On the weekend I went to the local fish'n chips shop to grab some lunch. There's a Domino's Pizza place there and one of the delivery dudes has a yellow RX-7 (one of the very first ones by the looks, can't tell for sure). It's a nice enough thing, clean and straight and pretty original looking -except for the big intercooler hanging out under the front bumper

Anyways I just happened to park right next to it. Amazing how different the 924 and RX-7 look and yet how similar they are!
They're near enough the same size and the front end (windcreen forward) -especially the hood, lights and nose -is so close to exactly the same it's weird. But the 924's front axle-line appears to be much further forward, with wheels almost right at the front of the car! The rear end is completely different in shape but still it's so much the "same" with the full glass rear and hatch, the square-ish taillights, even the bumper is similar. The rooflines are completely different, the RX-7's cabin is much taller and narrower doesn't look as streamlined. Same for the body shape overall - the RX-7 is much more square-ish with hard creaselines to the sides, not like the smooth (if slightly bulbous) 924 sides. The interior of the 924 looks huge compared to the RX-7! The seats look much further apart and set further back in the body. And, of course, the rear glass hatch is much bigger than the RX-7's.
I'd say the 924 appears much better proportioned overall (but then again, I'm biased, aren't I? )

It was really interesting to have a good look over the two, side by side. Unfortunately I didn't have my phone on me or I would've taken a picture

But the coolest thing was the bunch of kids riding their bikes around the carpark who couldn't keep their eyes off my car And the bloke walking past who stopped dead in his tracks to give my car the once-over... he didn't even glance at the Mazda! No girls came past while I was there... oh well...

My vote? The 924's got it

Easily!

There is one area, however, where I think the Mazda scores over the P-car, and that is the when the lights are up. The perfectly circular lights on the Porsche look a bit comical, imo. The Mazda has more purposeful-looking rectangular lights. Can't have everything, I suppose.

To delay me having to raise the main lights as long as possible, I've replaced my sidelights with 10 W marine halogen bulbs (same fitting, 4 times the cost! ). These are really bright and are OK for most of the time, except (obviously) unlit roads at night.

No you're not. Mazda never got the shape and proportion of the 924 RX7 right. It always looked like two cars stuck together until they gave up and did their version of the Batmobile.

when the rx7 came out I'm pretty sure it was faster than the 924 na and less than half the price of a 924. I think the older rx7s look ugly like all the other japanese sports cars of that time.

I liked the last rx7s it looks pretty nice. the rx8 is really ugly in my opinion but its a really good deal for the performance.

What i am pissed on is this issue....it happend at least twice...my car has a nice red paint and a black nose...it looks preety good(in my opinion) and just like khal i got some kids looking at my car and screaming around WOW !
Problem is they always say: WOW ! Look ! Thats a Ferarri !! COOL !

shit i should open the window and yell back: Porsche you bitches !

Anyway...there is no comparison for a Porsche...even if its engine was manufactured by Audi its still a Porsche...drives feels sounds like a Porsche and there is nothing and will never be anything that will ever mach its charm !

reminds me of the time I was visiting friends with my girlfriend, we had met at ours friend place in seperate cars... me in the 924 and my girlfriend in her mazda 626... well we were in the back seat of her car later that evening and my car was parked across the road, there is more room in a 626 you see for conversation . Anyway two kids road past on their bikes at one stage and stopped to have a squiz at my car. Low and behold one of the kids says quizically to the other "what is it ya rekon"??
"I dunno, I think it's an RX7"!!...
Instantly at the sounds of these words I got this feeling welling up inside me and all that I wanted to do was lean out the window to correct them instantly. As you can tell in the situation I was in all I managed to do was sit bolt upright and slam my head against the roof of my girlfriends car...
Needless to say she laughed her arse off at me... she call my car an RX7 all the time now just to stir me.

I live opposite a school and, as I was backing onto my driveway, a kid ran out and shouted, "Wow! A Ferrari!", but I had to let him off as he was only 5.

Still, there is a prancing horse on the badge...Must've been what confused him!

ok, you're gunna laugh at me. But the horse NEVER even caught my eye. I always just glance at it and say "oh, it's a coat-of-arms." I must be insane. But, yeah, the prancin' horse is quite ferrari-reminiscent.

christ, and i'm a graphic designer, too. this is embarrassing.

My 924 got mistaken for a Ferrari once, and another time it was mistaken for a Datsun! Last time when we were filling her up, a boy just shouted: WOW! Look Its a porsche! (he read the big porsche script, duh!), and after we parked our car at home, my alarm's fuse blew up! The other time, a big chunk of brick fell on it
