Looking around german eBay and came across these:
What are your thoughts?
How hard would it be to bend the perspex to the right shape?
http://cgi.ebay.de/GTS-Lights-Kit-fuer-Porsche-924-944-I-II-turbo-S2_W0QQitemZ250237177561
I like the idea of being able to fit any lights you want in there, and not being restricted to the square lights..
Cheers,

The buckets look awesome (but an in-person inspection would be more telling). As for the lenses, I'm going to be following macBdog's method:

| Just a cord of caution that as you mentioned the GTS headlight buckets and lenses are not flat, like the ones in the advert. They have a body line the follows the line that flows across front of the car and I think you would have trouble with fitment if the bucket does not have this bend... |

All good points.. also great link Ideola!
I never ran into that thread before..
I like the clean look of the pop-ups when they are down.. dislike the look when they are up..
I have an idea though!! Original, new and cool!
Ill speak to my buddy tomorrow or friday and see if he could fab something up
The plan in my head is to:
Have the pop up lights open upwards just a couple of inches. Fab up something to attach to the whole thing with a nice surround painted to the color of the car. When they are up, 1 or 2 HID lights will make the road shine.. If he can do this for me, the car will be a night lighter.. 2 powerfull driving lights in the lower bumper along with 2 where the pop-ups are..
Any reasons why this couldnt work that I may have missed?
Cheers,

Some time ago I boughtjust the GT Racing buckets and lenses. The lenses are very nice but the buckets could be better. I need to do a lot of work on the buckets to make then fit correctly.
If I remember right, they got $195 for the lenses which was a little pricey. I tried once to make my own in an oven using the headlight covers as a pattern but they didn't turn out.
There is a vacuum forming maching made for the hobbist that I had looked at but was very privy. Buy I recently found this
http://www.build-stuff.com/1001plans_hobby_vac.htm
which is about the same but very reasonably priced. All you would need to do is make a pattern for each side and you could easily make the lenses. |

| If you had the right type of mould it could work, but I would question how clear this stuff would be. We have prototype parts moulded at work frequently and they are never really clear like they come out when tha actuall tool are made for injection moulding. We recently had a small ice chute (it was about 10" long and about 1/2 of a 3" tube and 1/16" thick) that was supose to be clear (the vender clamed) but they ended up being slightly cloudy. If the covers turned out like that they would be unusable. |

that ebay ad... the lights themselves aren't included... I'm not paying 100eur for just the buckets (got lexan in my garage for the lenses)... I'll be building my own buckets from aluminium/fiberglass.
New hella lights will set me back 100..
you looked on the pefa site yet? the pic in the ad (with the red car) was 'borrowed' from pefa iirc . _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

the stock 924 headlamps are just too stylish for me to ditch them....the GTS style should be improved for me to go for it...hmm...this would be a good challange to design nicer GTS style lamps...i'll give it some tought when i have the time. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

I like the stock headlights personally, but with something like that someone could get HDI projector units from a newer audi or bmw, along with leveler motors, ballasts, bulbs, etc off of ebay and have some good night vision. _________________ Ryan Moone

you know what I'd like... lights off: stock look..... lights on: gts style.
So all I have to find is a material that gets transparant by an electric current _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)
