|

My rear main seal went this past weekend and it puked it's guts all over the floor! Well, I got the engine out last night and this evening I installed a new rear main seal, thanks Vaughan, the PVC union from Home Depot worked like a champ! Now for my question when I broke everything down it was all covered in oil, thats what happens when the seal goes. Anyway, the clutch disc got it as well, should I replace it or try and use it. I really don't want to spend the money, but I'd rather do that then pull the motor again! Here are some pics what do you guys think?

That clutch looks brand new, but if it is soaked with oil, I would replace it. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

I agree, if its been oil contaminated, its done. Replace it. Only bad things will come from using a clutch disc thats been soaked in oil. Sorry

I'd try hitting it with some sandpaper and a block to see if you can sand off the oil soaked part. . .it might be on the surface. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I'm leaning toward replacing it, this is the second time I've had the engine out in two months, it's getting old. _________________ BillA

Replace it.
You will only find out that a bodged clean of the disc worked when its all back together. If it didn't then you'll need to strip it all again...
Even if you managed to get the surface oil it might change when it gets hot.
Audi 100 clutch is what you want, but check all the measurements properly!!
