| Did the 931 in 1981 come in a yellow (Talbot Yellow)? I am looking at an 81 with 156K mi. that has been repainted. The original owner says it came in the bright yellow. Although I have seen earlier (1977's?) in this bright yellow, I don't know about the '81 931. |

According to the Brian Long book Porsche 924 the original yellow, Rallye Yellow, was available up to model-year 1978. Model-year 1983 was available in Pasadena Yellow. There is a reprint of a British advert for the turbo showing the car in yellow.
If the original owner is right the colour would have been a special order. The paint code on the options plate will tell you for sure (assuming you can find and read it). _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

Thanks, Peter...much appreciated!
I will go over to the seller's location again today and see if I can find the chassis plate. I know that there are no surviving paint code stickers on any of the door pillars or jambs. Would there be anywhere else to look? I will search the engine compartment and see what I can find. They did paint black over the fender liners and shock towers--maybe I'll see if I can see what is under that. |

This "yellow" (really YELLOW) 931 originally was white. I never could find anything other than VIN and several other plates in the engine compartment. However in several places under the bonnet I did a little scraping to get under either thick yellow or glossy black paint.
The car originally was white, ie. Alpinweiss.
So, the seller was less than forth coming when he said the car was yellow originally (unless the white was yellowing out....who knows).
At any rate I have walked away from buying this car.
If anyone is interested in this car for parts, let me know and I'll put you in touch with the seller in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. He wants between $1800 and $2000. The car will crank, but will run just enough to get onto a trailer or rollback. |
