hmm...the manifold almost looks like a Callaway kit, but I think that the Callaways came with IHI turbos...
interesting though
to be honest, if the turbo's in good condition, the current bidding price would be a good deal on the turbo alone _________________ '87 924 S - No sunroof and a few modifications |

Somehow, I don't think this would be as simple as "bolting it on"...

no, turbocharging a car never is just "bolt it on" really
but I think that this kit could make it as simple as "assemble and tune using either an aftermarket fuel controller or ECU (ie maxhpkit MaxTune)"
you would have to accept that the peak boost from the system wouldn't be much over 5-8psi, but then again, the SFR supercharger kit (which retails for far more and requires removing the A/C) makes almost 200hp at the crank with 5psi...that's a tremendous improvement over the stock 150-160.
*Note: i'm not affiliated with either SFR or whoever posted the ebay ad. I'm just a gearhead who's very intrigued by the thought of adding more power to my car without selling it or completely replacing the engine and drivetrain. _________________ '87 924 S - No sunroof and a few modifications |

So I wonder if this kit was intended to be run w/o an intercooler, or its just missing. I can't really tell by looking at the plumbing. _________________ Toofah King Bad

could be either way i suppose, although having an intercooler will allow for much more aggressive programming of the fuel map. I bet that with minor fabrication, a small air-water intercooler could be fitted on the passenger side. With an electric water pump, I imagine that one might even be able to modify the windshield washer reservoir to work with an electric pump (and maybe a small, secondary radiator) to use a waterjacketed turbo without affecting the engine's stock cooling system
I'll admit I'm just doing some thinking out loud here...the "kit" would definitely need some more parts to work, but I'm very intrigued.

There's a link to a bunch more info on 2.5l n/a turbocharging (although at the same time, it's a lot of info on circa 1985 technology) _________________ '87 924 S - No sunroof and a few modifications |

Looks like a Ford T-Bird Turbo Coupe intercooler sitting on the front passenger seat... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Definitely homemade. Those type of log manifolds are very poor flow if the flow is not in one direction. only good for low boost. At high boost you will get high EGT's that can destroy the turbo. I estimate they only used it for about 6-8 psi max. _________________ I think I have turbo'ed everything! |

Log manifolds, while not the best design, are not just for low boost. I've seen many cars make 400whp+ on a log manifold.
You do know the 931 manifold is a log design?
They're cheap and they work. _________________ --Alex--
