That was so cool. He's quite the driver. And 178 mph on the straight stretch - I've only been that fast in a plane. _________________ 1980 924 turbo, MSD, Meth. Inj, otherwise stock. |

"Twenty-six four, twenty-six four!"
I was just driving that in GT Legends last night! My 9:08.6 in the old BMW CSL seems a little pathetic by comparison... well, that and fact that Jim bloke actually did it...
I like the little drift and wave coming into Schwalbenschwanz. Whose benefit was that for?
The boys at Nissan ain't gonna be happy, what with the Yanks horning in on their GT-R's territory.
Good show. Congrat's! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

LOL... I think he was just pissed that he flubbed it...
My German coworkers, who've been around that track many times, were sure they could see a number of places he lost time... _________________ Vaughan Scott

great record !
i'm sure that at those speeds this is "normal", but it looks like he is kindof strugling to keep the front tires grip. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Neutral tending towards understeer is pretty much the default standard for sportscar setup. The toofah is that way. With the horsepower that ZR-1 has, I'm sure inducing power-oversteer is merely a twitch of the right big toe away... perhaps it shows how well he's modulating the throttle..? And the car tending towards understeer and still being that quick?! Oh yeah, like 924RACR says, there's time in that... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Ahem... You never had it!! Very contentious, but Radical Sports Cars from here in Blighty, ran a 6.55 in a road legal production car, on road tyres. And this was back in 2005

Eh... that's "series production car"... such cars made road-legal, tuner cars, etc are in another category, this is widely accepted... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Do you guys know if there's some racing/automotive body that certifies the Ring times? It kind of feels very loosy-goosy. Do they get an official lap time? Does someone check that the manufacturer didn't stuff an extra 150hp in the car, or make any other changes to the real production trim of the car?
I snuck into a Q&A session Friday with GM's head of road racing, and he mentioned the ZR1 and the Ring (they're waiting to get Jan Mangnussen or Jonny O'Connel out there for the official lap). He said that they believe the Nissan GTR and Porsche Carrera GT laps are composite laps. Meaning they take the fastest times from individual sectors and add them up for a fictitious lap time. They don't like that, and they want a real, timed hot lap with the ZR1. But if you can't compare apples to apples, then it seems these Ring times are not the golden standard I thought they were.

well the only way to compare two cars on the ring is to set them off at the same time and see....because the track is long and its really hard to get the same track condition twice. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

I realize there are a lot or variables, but I'd like to be able to reasonably compare the times. Everybody does it already, but I'm curious if pointing to these times IS a reasonable comparison, or if its just a free-for-all. Obviously 1 full real lap will be quite a bit different from just adding up the best segment times. Or worse, if they have test mule cars that are way faster then the real production cars, like manufacturers gave to car mags back in the day. Somebody needs to be policing this stuff for it to have any real meaning.
