i have bought two resistors in the last year, they are marked 1.8 ohm......
they keep opening up, the last one was only on the car a couple months.
i saw a thread here that suggested the value should be higher, like 5 ohm?
any suggestions?? they are getting had to find new.
this is on a '78 and is mounted on top of the radiator.

The original fan resistors are very durable and reliable parts. I suspect that if you are killing Original Porsche Parts (if you bought your dead ones from a Porsche Dealer, they came with a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty, return them for free replacement) you have a problem with the cooling fans or the wiring.

Apparently, earlier cars got a lower resistance, and later got 5.2 Ohm.. Were the ones that failed rated 50 watts?
Look here for less expensive alternatives - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=20487&start=5
