Is it a common issue to have a fuel gauge that bounces around and "ticks"? My temp gauge does it a little bit too, but the fuel gauge is all over the place. I just picked this car up yesterday, so I have a lot to learn.
Thanks!

Yep. Pretty common. You can address it by cleaning the grounds and also by cleaning the fuel sender, which our own (local to you and I) 924RACR published a how-to on.
Suggestion: list the model year and specific variant of your car (e.g. "1980 NA" for normally aspirate, "1982 931" for a turbo, etc.) in your sig so we all have easy reference to it when you post...guarantee, you'll never remember to remind us in all of your posts
Welcome aboard! There's a few of us here in SE MI...we need to do a fall get together soon...
{EDIT} Oops here's the link to the fuel sender fix: http://www.924.org/techsection/gas_sender.htm _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

try cleaning the external fuel sensor/float contacts before you pull the sensor out and clean it. A standard problem after all these years. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

Also check the condition of the shared earth point along the chassis beam at the rear of the car (i.e. between the rear lights) - after doing everything else I discovered this was where the fault was on mine _________________ 924 2.0 NA |

Here's the How-To

There's also instructions about for cleaning the sensor but try the simple stuff first. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)
