I wasgetting the urge to work on my car and was digging thru some parts and found a fuel distributor that came with the car. I thought I would replace the distributor and see if this helped the car run any better. I noticed on the second dist. a plug that I had not noticed before. Low and behold the one on the car does not have this plug. could this be a problem why the car will idle but when I give it gas it wants to dye? I drove the car home with this plug missing but it would not rev past 3000. Any help with this is much appreciated. I want to get this car back on the road. Thanks
I cannot try it yet because the battery is dead and the charger is not at the house.

No, that plug should be in place, but it won't fix your 3k rpm problem. On a 931, going with that hole unplugged would let some un-metered air in, but the 924NA direction of airflow through the air meterer is in the opposite direction, so what you'd end up with is a small percentage of your intake air being unfiltered.
Look to vacuum leaks, vacuum line routing, ignition timing, and valve timing for the source of the 3k problem.
