Looking at the PET catalogue it shows a shelf (477 857 836) that fits directly underneath the glove box compartment - i wouldn't mind one of these in my martini - was this a standard fitting/optional extra or just available on RHD 924's?

interesting question... haven't got a clue, but it's one of not many parts which should be 'mirrored'... most other stuff I can think of doesn't have this...

My 77.5 NA has one and it's a LHD. I don't know if it was standard though.

I don't get why this has anything to do with a/c cars... I'm sure all non-a/c's have it standard... but is the a/c the reason or something? Or did they think... well, you've got AC, you don't need a shelf....cuz you got a/c.... so you don't get one. because you've got a/c.
You want one? Pay up!

No, because with the A/C plenum under the glove box, there was a knee panel installed that didn't leave room for the shelf.

Do you think one of the shelves would fit on a RHD?

There is no RHD equivalent is what I meant.
I wanted one to hide/protect my ECU.

okay guys, i pulled mine out to take a few pics and get the part number for you. I did notice its left hand drive specific, as the front left is angled to folow the dash/console lines and the right side is straight. But its rather simple, and shouldn't be difficult to replicate. mine dusty and and is covered in the remnants of the felt that used to line the whole thing. The two holes in the bottom are not factory, they were drilled for a scanner mount.. the whole unit secures with four trim screws, two on each side.

Part number for LHD version is 477.857.836a it also has "MZD" stamped under the p/n.

Thanks for the info 924guy - shame it's just for LHD's.
