I speak 5 languages and one of them is Arbereshe. It is an ancient form of Albanian. Meh, to me means Oh well. There are only 80K of us that still speak it. This is true and not a joke.

Oh I forgot I also speak New Yorkese.

in every language you have such words.
Nice thing about languages is that they are evolving or at least changing.

It's bs to get such words in the dictionaries because in 10 years the word is already out of fashion and barely used, and there are new common words then.

how long will it take before iirc, roflmao etc are in the dictionaries? right...they probably won't.

In a way it's stupid to bound a language to concrete rules.

It's not like someone once made grammar rules and we have learned to apply these, it's the other way around. Language has evolved to what it is and the only thing we do is write up how it works.

'language' and 'grammar' and our 'lexicon' as we know it isn't prescriptive, it's descriptive.

A child learns the rules for language by what it hears, thus what is common and actual. It doesn't conciously learn rules, it infers them from input and these rules make sense, that's why almost every language in the world is the same (grammar wise), with some minor differences (like japanese where word order isn't as important as in English).

I see you guys thinking...."meh.."
