is it possible to convert standard 4 stud hubs to take 5 stud wheels from a 944 without changing back brakes from drums to discs

Why bother? The cost of the five bolt rear disc brake conversion is so low that you might as well just do it.

People hace written that it is possible to redrill the rear drums for 5-bolt, and I think I have seen for wheel spacers that are 4 bolt on one end, and 5 bolts onn the wheel end, but they were expense.

Again, why bother with Mickey Mouse drum conversion when you can install the real thing?

Probably because he's in Ireland and 944 parts aren't as cheap/plentiful here in the colonies. At the very least they don't have the use it and throw it away mentality that some of us here in the states do.

If I were the orginal poster, I'd get a set of 4-lug to 5-lug adapters, only I wouldn't use the Porsche 4-lug pattern. I would use a more common bolt pattern as Porsche patterned wheels are expensive versus say BMW or Audi, etc. Either way they'll likely need to be custom made and ordered over from England or Germany. So fire up your Google and do some searching.

Good luck,

A 4-lug pattern that Porsche uses isn't so unusual in Europe. Audi used it a while ago, and Ford, Citroen and Peugeot still use it on their 4-lug wheels.
