I have searched the forums and received great advice.
I followed the advice replacing seals, and cleaning drain holes.
I did run into something I want to share. I ran the trimmer line through the sunroof drain holes (Great idea). Well I hit a Y fitting on the passenger side. On my 87 there is a Y fitting to connect the sunroof dran to the drain in the fuel filler grommet. I pulled the y fitting apart and discovered that the fuel fit grommet, the big rubber piece that fits around the fuel filler neck, has a drain hole. This drain hole has a rubber sleave and a 90 degree steal elbow approximately 4 inches long. Well my rubber sleave was ripped and the steal elbow had some junk in it. I think that during heavy rains, the elbow would not drain fast enough, alowing water to seep through the rip in the the fuel filler grommet.
I cleaned everything out. Then I pushed the metal elbow fitting out the top of the fuel fitting grommet, by the filler neck. I then put a thick coat of RTV around the metal elbow, and pushed it back into the fuel fitting grommet until it was flush, thereby preventing the water from by passing the elbow and using the rip to drain into my backseat. _________________ 67 Mercury Cougar XR7 under Restoration
