Ok so for my 944 Auto Zone sold me a WR7DC but my owners manual says I need WR8DS, could this be causing my car not to start? My plugs are BLACK! Thanks guys.

AZ vs. Porsche, I might be tempted to take Porsche's advice. _________________ Toofah King Bad

The one ending in "DS" is a silver plug, while the other ("DC") is copper (both are excellent conductors). -And there's only one heat range difference between the two. While heat range is important (you want the plugs to get hot enough to self-clean, but not so hot that they cause [pre-ignition ]), I seriously doubt that it's causing a no-start problem. Of course the black deposits on the plugs suggest a too rich mixture...maybe a bad o2 sensor? _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Yeah, I tried a set of Champions that crossed over to the WR8DS, still won't start, I guess the next thing I need to check would be either distributor cap, wires, or coil eh?

The plugs don't make much difference when starting as long as they are intact adn sparking, the heat range is more to do with later on after warm up is complete. Check the whole ignition system (Don't replace it of hand) all the way from the sparkers to the ignition unit. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Thanks Rich, I'm gonna try the wires, distributor cap, and coil from my 924S to see if one of those is the problem. I wondered about the shims on the spark plugs tho, are they necessary on these cars? Could they be pulling the plug away from the piston to much?

Unless the wrong range is used and they are rapidly fouled. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Well I guess the spark plugs weren't the problem, it ended up being either a crankshaft or camshaft positioning sensor. Thanks for your help fellas.

How did you decide it was a crank shaft or sensor?
Black plugs seem indicate that they are fouled by too rich fuel mix.
Thanks.

I changed it out of my 924S and it started working haha. When I took them out they were covered with blackness, I cleaned them put them back in and they still wouldn't work so I changed them. Hope this helps.
