Does the u joint shaft for the power steering work with the manuel unit? I would like to convert my 924s to manuel steering from a 83' 944. What parts do I need? The 924s has a front wheel spacer, about 10mm, is this standard with phone dial rims?
Appreciate any comments. |

steering shaft from the manual cars is a longer unit, rack mounting point may also be different.
might be better off retaining the power steering parts and making work manual, by removing the pump and cooler, and bridging the hoses. not sure how well that will work in a p car though... others will know more. _________________ Eric

The knuckled steering shaft is different between power steering equipped cars and manual steering equipped cars. The power steering version is shorter. So to convert to a manual rack, you will need the rack itself, the knuckled steering shaft, and possibly the tie rods as well, which appear to be a different part number in PET. I'm not sure if it's just the ends that are different, or the rod itself, but there are different listings for manual vs. power steering setups. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| For the record, I was able to convert the power to manuel using the rack, u joint shaft and tie rod ends. As several post said, a little more effort to steer, put no leaks. The u joint shaft is about 30mm longer for the manuel, so power one will not work. |
