http://www.por15.com/POR-STRIP/productinfo/RSG/

I would like to strip and polish the rims on two sets of cookie cutters, but Vince Ponz's easy-off approach did absolutely nothing to remove the clearcoat on the rims of the cookie cutters (although it was very effective on my trash cans).

POR-15 has a wheel refinishing kit that includes some of this product, which they apparently recommend for removing clearcoats. Just wondering if anybody has ever used or tried this product specifically for stripping clearcoat from wheels.

Looks like a reg'lar olde methylene chloride stripper - sold at places like Autozone under names "Aircraft Stripper" and others. It's made in both liquid and gel forms. It's what I used to strip my whole car a few years ago. -And it's the mean nasty stuff, requiring a respirator (even outdoors), chem resistant gloves, eye protection (from both splash and fumes) and care not to get it on yourself anywhere unless you enjoy that burning sensation. You'd want to be extra careful if spraying the liquid version, especially on a breezy day, obviously. Long story short - you can pick up the same thing locally and save the shipping cost (assuming POR-15 stuff isn't available locally (which it may be, but usually isn't)).
A gallon of the gel "Rustoleum / Aircraft Remover" sells for $30 at Autozone.
-And they show an 18oz spray version for $9.

I havent used por 15's paint stripper yet but i have used a few other products and from experience price isnt necessarily a measure of good paint stripper, the cheap nasty stuff from bunnings turns out to be a hell of a lot stronger then other more expensive options ive tried. Por15 on the whole has some amazing products ...good brand good product.

on a side note Por glo is an amazing product for your rubber spoiler ive tried it..very nice

http://www.ppc.au.com/access_porglo.htm

And once done you can finish with Glisten PPC...
http://www.ppc.au.com/topcoat_glistenpc.htm
(havent tried it yet though)
its the only clearcoat ive found that can go straight on a polished aluminium surface...others need base coat or etching which ruins the polish

You know you're a geek when. . .

You use ASCII mapping to put a little "R" in your thread title. . .

Go back and try the Easy Off again. This time leave it on longer. It has to work harder therefore leave it on for 5 min at a time.
Do this work outside. Do one wheel at a time.
It may sound silly but don't use the lemon scented Easy Off.

Let me know how you made out.

light sanding first will help the paint stripper sink into the clear

I did two batches of the original easy off for 20 minutes each pass, and tried scrubbing off with a scotch brite pad. Didn't even make a dent.

I just wanted to note that "Aircraft Stripper" is some awesome stuff!!!Great for aluminum and safe for use on most nonmetals, metalloids, and most all of those crazy alloys.
