All right, call me weird, but I like the 931 spiderweb wheels on my 924S. I've had 17" Boxster wheels, 17" 996 wheels, 16" 951 phone dials, and most recently 15X7 944 phone dials on my car, and I've tossed them all in favor of the spideys I just claimed off an '82 parts car. They just have an old school '70s look that I like, for some reason.

Anyway, to the point. I'd like to hear some suggestions, and hopefully see some pictures, on what color to paint them. I was thinking a simple black, which I really like on alexvex's orange 931, or possibly black with a polished lip, resembling a BBS type wheel. I recently saw a thread on Pelican where a guy painted some BBS wheels a bronze color, and I really liked that, but I don't know how it would look on a guards red car.

Or, just let them age 'gracefully', and do nothing!

Thanks for the responses.

BionicBalls: That's a good looking car. With the wheels painted like that, the rockers painted red, and the side lights deleted, it looks like a 944 with Fuchs or cookie cutters in profile.

Grenadiers: Mine have already aged quite a bit, but I think they're way beyond "gracefully". A repaint is my only hope.

Ozzie: If mine looked that good, I'd probably leave them like that. But if I'm going to go through the trouble of painting them, I gotta go with something different.

Flosho: I think we have a winner! I painted my 944 phone dials in Duplicolor Graphite that looks just about like the color of yours. I wasn't sure if it would look good on the webs though. I like the dark stealth look. By the way, what size tire are you running? It looks bigger than the 205/60's I've got on mine. 215/60's, maybe?

How about a variation on a theme...

How about black or gunmetal with a really thin red line around the rim? I think that would look hot, and the red line would give just enough of a break to distinguish the wheel from the tire, plus would match your body color.

BionicBalls, I'd be interested in how you polished the lip. How did you strip off the material down to the bare aluminum? I have a set of 5-lug spiders that I want go with polished lips with dark blue centers to eventually put on my 81 NA (if I ever get around to swapping on the extra 5-lug I have).

Yeah, I love that redline look. How did you mask it off to get the circle smooth and regular when you applied the red stripe?

I sprayed the rim's edge red, then let it dry and masked it off and sprayed the rest black. It turned out okay. If I were to do it again, I would realllly take my time. It's not perfect but its good enough for what I wanted.

I think I'm going to paint mine with the same graphite that I used on my phone dials. Then I can just pop in my center caps with the red crest.

I'll see how that comes out, then I might experiment with the red stripe.
