Was driving it one day fine, parked, pulled out the park, got like 30yrd then the thing just did a total shut down. REALLY wants to start cranks and all, just wont kick over. my friend told me the crank trigger sensor, i thought 82 turbos dont have a crank trigger sensor because of the dist cap and the 7prong ignition control unit.. I thought? If there is one tho pics or locations please? The thing just wont start! (air flap is fine no vacuum leaks.. no sign of elec problems) _________________ Just wait 'till my turbo starts firin' the RPM LZR!

No i have the book, an like i said i dun think its the crank trigger sensoer cause of the distrub an ign ccon unit an' everything.. just looking for ideas.. more on if anyone knows why my fuses keep blowing.. i just put a new sound system in it, works fine sounds fine.. got a 100w amp to power my 10" sub and two door speakers.. head units wired in right i'd imagine.. only it dosnt save the time or anything or any settings.. i always gotta redo it . _________________ Just wait 'till my turbo starts firin' the RPM LZR!

That's your answer right there! You do have a crank pos sensor, 81-82 do, and sounds like it's OK generally, just a bad connection getting jostled by most likely bumps (that's what I had). Check the smaller, 3-pin connector on the DITC unit (ECU under the heater unit), I have recurrent corrosion on mine. Just have to scrap it clean.
On the radio and fuses... I assume you're powering the amp directly from the battery? In that case, of course, there's no impact from the tunes on the blown fuses. If not, well of course that'd be dumb.
What fuses are blowing? Can be aggravated by corrosion; IMO the fuel pump circuit is overloaded on these cars - too much stuff on the same old circuit to have good durability. I had to replace my one fuse with a couple; prior to that, the fuse would overheat. Corrosion on the stock fusebox contacts aggravates things too.
I've got a couple amps in my 82, but powered direct, no worries.
Sounds like the head unit doesn't have a dedicated always-on power lead, which is what it'll need to keep the clock right etc. You might be able to figure out which one needs that power, by pulling the head unit - usually they'll have a wiring diagram on a sticker on the backside. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Ya the wiring for my head unit it totally different lookin then this weird porsche wiring.. I'll just never have a working in car clock..
ima go re-clean everything and double check that D box..
btw i checked the other connection on it, it looks like the female parts have like goldish "holders" the conducters on the inside.. but there only in a few lots are missing in other parts its just blk plastic..
Should I change that connection? Finding one would be hard i'd imagine..
And If I do have this God damn sensor people keep telling me i do then dont then do have, WHERE is it, any PICTURES? 'cause it sure aint in my book ANYWHERE.

Haynes will NOT have a picture or hardly any useful reference info for a turbo car, let alone a series 2 version, which you have.
Unless I'm mistaken, the crank sensor is near the top of the bellhousing, not too far distant from the window where you check timing. It will be hard to see. Get a flashlight, and very gently start moving the vac lines and wires on the driver side of the coil. Peer down at the bell housing and see if you can make it out. Not easy to get to in situ. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

What Dan said. Straight under the coil on the bellhousing.
You should be able to reproduce your problem simply by wiggling the grey wire to/from the sensor, most likely at the DITC. _________________ Vaughan Scott
