One of my cars is in the open and they put on the sprinklers they leave spots that are very hard and almost impossible to take off.
I tried razors blades, calcium remover, soft scrub pads, wd40, glass wax,
and my wifes old panties. These spots are just a little harder to remove than the panties.

o man, that was good.

I would think that if it was just water, the spots would be the minerals in the water, just like after a car wash some times you get spots if you dont dry your car off. Those come off with soap and water. This doesnt sound like the same situation, especially if the panties dont remove them.

Maybe there is something in the water like fertilizer. If its just on the glass, maybe try paint thinner or some type of solvent. Or maybe just some really good glass cleaner. Not windex but the foam stuff.

Good luck, and least the spots are harder to get off than the panties [/quote]

Try white vinegar. Whatever you find , use RainX after you are done.

You can also try the stuff used for removing the mineral buildup from outdoor mister noozles.

I installed a string of "Arizona Misters" on the west side of my house and the maintenance kit comes with a bottle of stuff to soak the noozles in to remove deposits. Tried it on a set of forged Fuchs/VW Jetta wheels to remove lawn sprinkler minerals, and it works fine without damaging the anodizing, so it should work on painted surfaces as well.

Sells for about $8 a bottle at HomeDepot. Just don't leave it sitting on the pain on hot day, just incase.

try a piece of steel wool. Works like a charm and gets anything off glass... wont scratch either. For good measure, you could dip it in some CLR.

All good choices - first to mind was vinegar, then CLR. -But whenever I had the same problem (car would get sprinklered, then baked in the sun), I'd use cerium oxide* windshield polish (just because I happened to have some already on the shelf).

* - that's off the top of my head - I'll have to check and see if it's right..

"Cerium Oxide" at JCWhitney - http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10101/s-10101/p-100000163375/mediaCode-ZX/appId-100000163375/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:100000163375

Eastwood has "Rhodite" that's alleged to be better for deeper scratches -

I've also used the cerium oxide for scratches that resulted when a wiper blade fell off. It did get rid of those scratches.

ok guys I already had an answer when I posted this. I really tried everthing including 3m scratch remover to no avail.

Last thing on the shelf was Mothers alum polish. It did the trick without a problem. A little elbow grease helps.

Thanks for the help as this was a test. Now back to our normal programming.

Hi Vince
Love the panties statment that s great.! Sounds like possibily the calcium has ectched itself into the galss. I have some old school like 1950,s glass polish that works real well on removing glass ectching& inperfections like sand pitting I would be happy to send you some to see if it would help, If interested pm me & I will send you some.

I really appreciate the offer but the Mothers Alum polish works great. It is not etched in the glass and I tried everything including today the vinegar.
Being I have garlic around my neck the entire car smells like a salad.
One good thing that has happened is now the neighborhood bats don't follow me anymore.

Okay, the Mothers has a fine grit to it and with a little elbow grease [comes with the vinegar and the garlic] works great. I tried 3M paint finisher but the grit was not strong enough.
