Look's like you have a good start there. I have just completed fixing rust on the same location on my car. Opted to cut out the bad rust and weld in new metal to be on the safe side.

im going to weld in a new plate but need to touch up on my welding skills havnt done it in a long time but even if i dont it doesnt really matter as i only paid 270 GBP
