Ok so the story goes like this, another 931 has popped up in my area, I just checked it out today. Body is clean but a little dented (no big issue to me). Car doesn't run (belt didn't break) but did run when he parked it. The interior is a little faded and the seats and dash are cracked. I can't read the tag on the rearend but I jacked it up and both rear wheels spin in the same direction (typical indication of a LSD).
Now my questions are, did a 1980 924 turbo ever come with 4 lug wheels and drums on the rear? Is there any way I'm wrong about that rear end? At $1700 CAD do you think it's a good deal as a parts car or even a potential fixer uper? Also can someone provide a picture of the location of the tag on the G31 transmission so I can locate it?
Thanks in advance guys.

Green tartan interior, you don't see that on a Civic. |

Yes, you could get a 1980 with LSD and still have the 4-lug setup. If it has LSD, I would snap it up. The parts bin alone would be worth it (IMO), although I don't know that $1700CDN is what I'd be willing to pay for a non-runner.
There is no tag on the LSD, the number is etched into the case. I don't have any photos handy, but it should be along the bottom center "rib" on the diff case, and should end in a /12 (IIRC). _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

You a gearbox expert? Could you take one apart and rebuild it yourself? I only ask because if you can, I agree with Ideola, it'd be worth snapping it up just for that -assumed -LSD alone. If you can't, you may well end up spending more than you pay for the car just to rebuild the 'box (I'm assuming the gearbox is toast, they all are, and it's a non-runner so you couldn't tell anyway... unless the owner has receipts for a rebuild the day before it died...)
From my very limited experience, CDN$1,700 isn't completely unreasonable for a decent example, even if it is a non-runner (especially if it has an LSD!). But, y'know, if it's in a bit average in condition, well, probably means it hasn't been too well cared for and you're entering a world of hurt...
For what it's worth, I passed up a very clean looking, non-running 924 Turbo that was listed at CDN$2,500. I would've paid CDN$2,000 for it, had I the time and means to fix it (just couldn't quite figure what went wrong to stop it running, so without any decent place/tools/etc to work on it, I had to pass it up). _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

If there is that sticker still present there, it should have number 220 listed on the option codes. You should check the owners manual too for that same number. These pictures are from my car, although it is '82 model.
