Reply with quote Edit/Delete this post Delete this post So I picked it up wednesday and i am in love after a oil change i got a key made and added clean fuel and she cranked over then sputtered out on second crank just the ingnition system no turn over from the motor. So I began to trouble shoot and it I think i found the problem there is no fuel getting to the four heads on the top of the air intake If anyone has any clues that would be great

| Can you hear the fuel pump running? Is the filter on backwords? Is the fuel getting into any of the lines? Try taking off the fuel pump at the bottom of the tank and seeing how it looks. |

First you need to do a bit of reading on the CIS mechanical injection. You need to be acquainted with it before you can troubleshoot (or understand all the helpful replies in here)
Here are a couple of docs that helped me in the beginning (taken from rennlist I think):
CIS parts (pictures)
CIS parts (text)
Explanation of CIS: http://www.diagnostic-assistance.co.uk/mech_inj.htm
Oh, and there is a 924 Haynes manual available - GET IT!
- If your picture means that fuel is getting to the fuel distributor, but not to the injectors, the distributor may be stuck.
If your fuel pump is running try pulling an injector (they are not screwed in, they pull out). Then remove the air filter box and push the Air flow sensor plate slightly. Fuel should spray from injector. _________________ 1980 924NA ROW |

and I almost forgot....this is a very friendly board, but some of the old members may get touchy if you ask too many Q's already found in the FAQ

Your air tube/hose is broken. You can see it in the pic. The one that connects the cis and the air intake system. If you dont fix that the car will never run..... _________________ NA 924 - april/1977- 4-speed-audi gearbox.

Somebody has been monkeying around with the electrical system.
I can see that what you have is an early 924 with two ballast resistors. One is used when the ignition switch is in the start position, and the other is used when the ignition switch is in the run position.
You wiring has been altered, and one of the resistors is no longer connected to the wiring.
You can see the resistors in the photo. One is located on each side of the ignition coil. The one to the right in the photo looks recently replaced. |

You need to spend the money to buy a service manual because you are NEVER GOING TO GET YOUR CAR RUNNING WITHOUT DETAILED INFORMATION.
I suggest that you investigate the car throughly without attempting any more repair to determine whether there is enough left to warrant the purchase of a service manual (a used Porsche Factory Service manual is going to cost you $25-$100). Looks to me like there is considerable rust and corrosion present, which may make restoration economically unreasonable.
You can always strip the car for usable parts, and look for a better example to restore. There are lots of neglected 924s out there to choose from. |

You really need to replace both those large boots from the fuel distributor to the intake manifold. Taping them will not work.
They're still easily available and one of the cheapest, easiest fixes you'll do to make it run correctly. CIS hates extra air. It will completely upset the running characteristics of the engine, make it run too lean and damage other components as well.
Buy new boots. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |
