|
|
| I was at the junkyard to day and I cam across a 1997 vw jetta with what looked like electronic fuel in it. I was wondering if I could make it fit my 924 with only a little modification? or if this car wouldn't work are there any cars that might fit the 924 thanks |

The 97 VW Jetta has a fully integrated OBDII engine control system. That is ignition, fuel delivery, and emissions.
I'm not saying that it can't be done, but doing it would take an experience mechanic, and a computer programmer.
And, if you have to ask, you don't have the knowledge or experience to do it. |

| Rather spend your money on a VEMS - it works out cheaper and better that MS, since you have the EGO integrated. Modifying another car's system will mean that either you know the system yourself inside-out already - ie you are an experienced tuner with that system, or be prepared to pay more than a VEMS just to get it tuned. |

oh come on now, you can get one here -> http://fireandfuel.ca/content/view/17/84/ for only 1095 Canadian dollars, but you see, that comes with a wideband controller (still gotta buy a wideband sensor mind you) and some other stuff, so its well worth it................ nevermind that I converted my whole car to megasquirt for less than that....... *cough*

Understand they have capability for 2 (dual) O2 sensors but no idea of the associated hardware/ software.
Also has on board basic knock detector/ filter/ processor via a TPIC8101 IC that supports 2 sensors.
Raceboy can expand on the additional features and benefits of VEMS being familiar installing/ tuning them and a distributor.
However, as Min and Scorpio exclaimed, its very difficult to go past MS from a performance per $ and support perspective. A basic (MS1) at around 1/3 the cost, and especially if you have a knowledge of electronics (or some help) a comparable set up can be built at under half the price. |

NO...hope that makes it easier
what other EFI cars have exactly the same engine parameters as the 924?..i cant think of any....remember the million possible variables in an engine management system _________________ 1979 NA

Can get a ms1 for 139 dollars from diyautotune un-assembled or a slightly better ms1 for 187. I wasn't in anyway suggesting that VEMS isn't a good system, or that it doesn't have quite alot of good features built in that you have to pay extra for to get with your megasquirt. Just bothers me when people make such blatantly incorrect statements as if its known fact.

No. There are no shortcuts to efficiency if you are going to completely replace your entire fuel system. Trust me, these guys have great info on this board and know their stuff. They won't steer you wrong _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)
