Help! My 82 924 non turbo needs a hardware kit for the rear drum brakes. Seems like you can get shoes anywhere, but no hardware kit. Performance Products said that are a dealer item. Does anyone know of a source or compatible hardware kit for another car? Thanks in advance for any advice. - Peter

Many Audis and VWs use the same brakes.

You should be able to get the hardware you need from any place that sells VW brake parts. However, you should take the hardware you need to replace with you to match up at the store.

I haven't compared it, but I suspect that the rear drum brakes on my 95 VW MKIII Golf GL is the same as that of the rear drum brakes of the 924, with the exception that the Golf has self adjusters on the rear shoes.

If I still had any 924 rear drum brake assemblies, I could compare them with the Golf's. I suspect that the Golf self-adjusters will work on the 924.

That sounds like a promising might. I have thought that self adjusting must be possible easily, I know that some strange place like denmark or Norway had self adjusting brakes on the 924 as standard when no other country did??? why this was the case I am not too sure but have seen it listed somewhere with option codes and wondered if you could get your hands on self adjusting rear drums from these cars. It is not high on my list of things to do but if it is possible I would be interested one day.

Looks like the 1982 VW Jetta kit will work. Bought a kit and the springs and retainer pins look like they fit the 924 perfectly. The 924 is fairly simple and some Jetta springs will be left over. Will update after installation tomorrow. Thanks for your help. - Peter
