Ok, I recall a topic like this years ago but I couldn't find it.

Who has removed that snorkel-thing on the back of the alternator and how long have you been running with it off.

I've just replaced the alternator and couldn't get the shield back on. It now resides somewhere off in the back of the garage where I threw it, hard, in great frustration...

The stock exhaust manny is in fairly close proximity to the wiring so I think I need something there to deflect the heat and it will be easy to fabricate something, but if everyone chimes in and says "fugheddaboudit", then I'll move on...

Ive read here ,cant remember when, of problems with the starter motor due to excessive heat from the exhaust manifold.

Personally i am in the middle of putting new wire off from the alternator as the covering plastic had "hardened" to the point of cracking in certain spots, no doubt due to the heat.....basically the wire encasing was soft and flexible in some spots and broke like dry spaghetti in others...

Ill be using reflective wire coating on my starter motor and alternator wires

At least the back of the garage is cooler.

Chris's racecar doesn't have one. I'm not all that excited about that fact, though.

Mine is in place.

Mine is still there. On a side note I just took the hose portion of it off and a good portion of it fell apart in my hands. Anyone got a suggestion on where to get a replacements. It's pretty light weight hose it seems.

I recently rediscovered mine in the long grass beside one of my wrecks. But in Canada I don't need it - the weather is on my side...

My one is off at least for 15 years and it is working without any trouble.
So, safe the weight and store it because you will need it in 20 years for restauration purposes.........
