I must have read everything at least twice. I have mapped and measured hoses and lines. I have read about valves and switches. So here are some questions I still have.

1. Replacing all of the little vacuum lines that currently are plastic tubes with slidey cloth chinese finger cuffs over them.
1a. Is silicone the best material?
1b. Are there good and bad silicone hoses?
1c. Do these little hoses need to be clamped and with what?
1d. Does size matter, are they 3.5 mm, 4 mm, 1/8 in, or what?

2. Can I, or should I, use silicone, or braided cloth, or fuel rated hoses for the carbon canister connections?

3. When the car warms up and the eec control valve causes the previous canisters fumes to be consumed, which direction is the flow? My canister has only two (2) hoses. No additional hoses or holes.
3a. From the canister to the air cleaner box?
or
3b. From the canister through the eec control valve and into the air plenum?

4. The hoses between the canister and the bottom of the air cleaner box are about 13mm.
4a. Are they 12.??mm or maybe 1/2 in ? I saw someone say 12.7 -- does it matter.

5. There is one continuous hose between the canister and the bottom of the air cleaner box. At the canister the size is 13mm-ish (see #4 above) but at the air box the fitting is 17mm-ish.
5a. Is this stupid?

With help I hope to make my vacuum system suck.

Also, in this post, I wrote:
You can get the silicone vacuum lines from Hose Techniques or from Baker Precision. When I re-did all the vac lines on the NA, I ordered 10 feet of 10mm and 10 feet of 4mm. Both suppliers carry blue, red & black.

As for clamping, I don't think it's really necessary, but when I was chasing down a vac leak on my NA, I used small zip ties to snug down all of the 4mm lines, and I also used larger regular vac line clamps on the larger lines.

When using the silicone, the exact size of the I.D. is not really that critical. Slightly smaller is better than slightly larger. The material is very flexible and will stretch very well. A slightly smaller I.D. will seal very very well.

Paul has theorized that gas fumes may not be good for silicone lines. Personally, I haven't noticed any issues after having replaced all of the lines in my NA and 941 with silicone (and having run that way now for 5 years on the former and the better part of 3 years on the latter). Also, as I've pointed out elsewhere, silicone is the material of choice for turbo charge tube couplers, which presumably are also exposed to the same oil and fuel vapors that vac lines would be.

Thank you. Hose Techniques just stopped selling vacuum hoses. I called them, they had a manufacturing problem so they have won't anything for another 4 to 6 weeks. Baker is a bit pricey and doesn't offer 13mm. I ended up ordering from Booster Controller at: www.boostcontroller.com.

I'd still like to get some of those other questions answered if anyone knows.

I mapped out the current hookup and it matches the diagram under the hood.
This car takes:
3.5 mm - 10ft
10 mm - 3 ft
13 mm - 6 ft
This does not include hose to brake booster and hoses attached to venturi.
Also have to pick up a short 2-3 inch 17 mm for attachment at the bottom of the air cleaner box and a 13mmx17mm connector (or use the old one).

Does anyone have a map of the 77 NA Vacuum lines? I don't seem to have a layout anywhere under the hood and I really want to make sure I get them all the first time.

For vacuum hoses..why not just get a pretty generic (multi sizes) silicon pack off ebay for peanuts and see what fits snugly?

Carbon canister wise im not sure..if in doubt go fuel hose.... I threw my cannister away, it was annoying me

Any idea what section/page. I thought I went through the whole thing but couldn't find it.

I was planning on doing what Ideola did and get some silicon from Hose Techniques. I think I have all lengths and sizes I need, I just need a better idea of which ones I need to replace. I gonna post a picture of my engine bay soon with the lines I think I need to replace. You guys can chime in with any I miss.

Thanks!

Here's an image I added a color overlay to. This is what I see off the top of my head but I know I'm missing something.

Here's a link to a larger version of the file you can click on for clarity.

Thanks for reminding me - mine's sitting in position completely disconnected since MS hit the scene...

Your engine and engine bay need a good scrub

change those lines out with coloured silicone lines...that way whatever is still black will be easier to see
