Hi Guys, I've been lurking around here for a while and have now decided to sign up. Unfortunately the first thing I need to do is ask for help.
I have a 1983 924 lux and it has a noticable knock/jolt from the transmission (manual) area noticable when changing gear and when reapplying the accelerator sharply after lifting off. It's worse in fifth gear, and get progressively less noticable lower down the ratios and its not noticeable in second or first.
On a conventional transmission I'd put it down to a mounting of some kind, but I'm concerned it could be more serious. If it helps there's also a slight whiring sound present when the car is idling in neutral if the cluch is engaged which I'm guessing could be the clutch realease bearing or the torque tube. The thransmission does also whine slightly, but nothing I'd consider excessive.
Has anyone got any ideas? |

Sounds like a clutch and spigot bearing problem.

Two possibilities come to mind that might account for the knocking (there may be more involving transmission internals, but I generally don't go there).
First is that the center, shock absorbing section of the clutch disk (either springs or rubber parts) may be shot. Second is loose CV joint bolts. It's way easier to check the CVs, so look there first. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
