got my new front springs delivered today, basically 30mm reduction in ride height with a stiffer spring.

it says on the warning with the springs, BEFORE FITTING BUMP STOPS MUST BE REDUCED BY MINIMUM 20mm

??

where and how T.F. would one go about doing this AND more importantly IS it necessary?

bemused, confused, not amused.

20mm up from the bottom (larger end). A hacksaw will be fine.

Most likely, or they wouldn`t advise it.
Hardly rocket science, if the distance between the top of the strut and the upper mount is reduced 30mm, even with heavier springs the standard length bump stop will be too long for proper travel without bottoming out.

Think Koni bump stops are shorter. Better using shorter new ones if you can find something at local suspension shop or cutting down new OE ones. Generic VW Golf parts IIRC and very cheap. 30yo rubber will be quite deteriorated by now and possibly split even if cut down.

What he said - you don't want to be cornering on your bumpstops! Just get new ones, the old ones will be shot likely...

Here in the states, Paragon is one of the better sources for suspension components. Not sure about your side of the pond. If you call them, ask for Jason.

prothane makes a universal urathane "adjustable" bump stop kit thats pretty cheap. adjusted by how many stacking pieces are used.

Probably no problem, at least on my car. The welt 250 springs made it barely lower than stock, and about twice that stiff.

Chrenan was the first one to say this on our board. I just got some Bilstein HD's for my 931. The documentation that came with the struts said that they have an internal bump stop and not to use an additional bump stop. I guess I'll believe them, besides the normal bump rubber won't fit the HD strut shaft which has a much larger diameter.

Hi
I've got Bilsteins aswell and could not get the bump stop to fit. I did read somewhere about an internal bumpstop, guess it makes sense as there really is no way to make the original stop fit.
