200 eur for a new 951 radiator. I understand it's not genuine, but it looks like a great upgrade for my turbo project.
Is this a 951 radiator (based on the hose connections etc?).
Is the price right?
Can't find much second hand. I would like to have the fans also, but maybe it's fun to scavenge for even better fans (from some non-exotic car or truck or whatever... underdog fan...).
Actually..the main question will be: should I buy this, or should I buy a probably leaky, used, hard to find OEM 951 radiator. _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

It's hard to tell from the photo, but it doesn't appear to have the extra nipple on the lower rad side to feed the turbo coolant circuit.
IIRC, when I was looking at this for my UWB project, the $400 mark seems to stick out in my mind for a new non-OEM 951 rad. I was considering that route and also the Ron Davis rad like the one Rasta purchased, but I ended up getting a great deal on a used Wizard Cooling 951 racing rad, so that's what I'll be using.
The one in the eBay ad has plastic end tanks, which are not modifiable, so you might think about having them replaced with alu tanks. Then you could fab up whatever connections you need. Also, I'd want to know thickness of the core, and what passage arrangement it has. I didn't bother trying to Google-translate the page, so I can't tell if it describes that, but it didn't appear to.
All in all, for €200, it's not a terrible price for what it appears to be, depending on the warranty, at least based on values here in the US. But I suspect you could find better.
Have you considered getting a 944 core-only unit and taking it to a rad shop? You might be able to have it cleaned and modified for less than the price of new and come out with a better design and performance in the long run... _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I'm not really aware of the modifications possible to radiators. Didn't know those 'end tanks' could be made from plastic.
Not sure how much modifications can be done to aluminium around here... I'll have a look.
The coolant from the turbo (and to the turbo) is something I haven't really thought of yet. Worst case I'll have to use some semi exotic pieces if it can't be connected directly to the rad.
The thing is I don't have much alternatives yet. And if it'll fit good enough, I can work with it.
In the ad isn't really that much info. Only says this:
Angebot für PORSCHE Kühler mit folgenden Eigenschaften:
Kühler, Motorkühlung
Netzmaße: ca.
Dicke/Stärke: 43 mm
Breite: 500 mm
Höhe: 356 mm
which means:
Offered for Porsche, radiator with the following properties;
Cooler, Engine cooling
Netzmasse (don't know what that means, probably net-sizes estimated)
Thickness (of the core I guess) 43millimeter
Width 500mm
Height 356mm _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)
