Hi all,
So after owning my 924 for all of 1 hour, I've broken it! I tried to open the bonnet and broken the handle! As the engine temperature seems to be quite high and oil quite low, does anyone know of any Porsche 924 specialists near West London?! I think I'm going to get someone to take a look over it....
Regards

If you can have someone hold the hood down with pressue. Get a pliers and grab the wire and pull hard. It may open your hood. If not get under the car and wrangle you hand under the lock and try to push the lock to one side. The last part is slightly difficult. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Cheers guys
I managed to get the bonnet open by pulling the wire. But the engine overheated and I had to get towed home! Apparently the fan was wired badly.
I took the car to Charles Ivey (WHY?) in Putney. They quoted me £250 to fix the fan and £150 to fix the bonnet, plus he said "...without blinking you're looking at £3,000 you could spend on the car!"....
I'm just going to get the bonnet catch and engine done so at least the car is running okay. Christ, I only got the car on Sat! What have I done?! |

What repairs did they recommend that added up to that figure ???
Maybe we can help walk you through some of them to save some £. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| I didn't even ask lol! I'm going to get the two essentials to get the car running and thats it. I'll post the problems later and if anyone can give me advice, or anyone in London can fix them for me (I'll pay!!)... that would be awesome!! |

£3000, sounds about right. You live in London mate, You are only dona run one of these if you can do stuff yourself - or go get a 3 year old boxter on finance, it will be cheaper than paying someone to maintaine your 924. Who knows what the hourly rate is in London. In Cornwall its £50 per hour plus the VAT (15%). That makes 7 and a bit days work if that quote is labour alone.
I asked my local garage to quote me for changing brake shoes and pads on the 924. if i supply the pads and shoes they can do it for £200. They gota live!
The only reason i get a quote is so i feel good about doing it myself in the damp and cold!
Just out of interest a parking space in Fowey (a local harbor town to me) is £2000 per year. _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)

he is padding the bill. pretty common when I worked for hyundai. some of these things you can do yourself with help and nerve. if you bring in a car to a tech and say "what do I need?" he will give you a list. If you say " my brakes work like garbage." he will tell you " you need new brakes". just deal with the immediate problems at hand and do as much yourself as you can. _________________ "There are no kings inside the gates of Eden"
