Damages,

Smashed spoiler.
Shatterd fan shroud.
Bent radiator.
Bent radiator mounts.
Cut power steering belt.
Crushed spoiler to radiator air guide.
1 beaver

Question. Should I have my insurance company send the car to the nearest dealer and have it fixed (all costs are covered) or should I have their claims adjuster come out, look at the car and write me a check and me fix it myself? What is a likely estimate for replacement of the parts listed and labor?

Time to get out the barbecue! Could you sell the pelt to cover costs?

When my 944 gargled a porcupine the same size as that beaver I had a shop take care of it. The insurance company forked over about $3,500 - my damage was identical to what you describe. At the time I didn't have the resources to do it myself, but even if I did I would have sent the car out for repairs. To this day I still find quills embedded in the undercoating.

I didn't see anything on your list that seems too hard to DIY. Is there some reason you wouldn't attempt it yourself? You'll definitely come out ahead that way...

It may be best to hire a taxidermist, though...

I was expecting something totally different and possibly suggestive form this thread. Ideola's right though, if you can do it yourself, most always come out ahead. Around here its not beavers that are a threat, it's the dear with a death wish.

If it were me i would take the cash and do it myself unless you can put it in with a Porsche dealer! It's something that wouldn't be offered here in the UK. The insurance company would give you book price for the car then they would break it for parts at a vehicle recyclers to get their money back (and cut a profit). Then load next years insurance by 60%

Its only worth going through the insurance here if you accidentally
kill someone or have a car less than five years old.
What access do you have to pay JC? And when you gonna post pics of the car?

I was headed down a hill near a lake at 9:45 at night. THe biggest darkest dumbest ass beaver on the planet hears the whine of my german 2.5 engine headed down the hill and thinks to himself, "gosh, today is a good day to run right out in front of a porsche." He does just that and I all I have is the time to say "what the f.." I began to smell melting rubber and plastic no less than 100 yards after, so I pulled off. Had to cut my powersteering belt and drove the car back up the hill and a mile into town and left it. THere she sits.

The insurance company has offered to pay to have the car hauled to a porsche dealership and pay for all resulting work. I could let them do that I suppose and they could spend probably 3500 on everything. Or I could just have a claims adjuster look at it where it sits and write me a check. I cant picture the check even being as big as 2 grand because he wont nitpick like a porsche dealer wanting the money will, but we all know that a 944 parts car can be had for pretty cheap.

oh yeah, the radiator was dry this morning.

I don’t deal with insurance companies very often. Is it ok to just say you don’t want the work done now and you simply want a check, or do they want to make sure that the car is repaired?
