Hey everyone. I'm picking up a rough 1979 924 tomorrow, and am glad to have found a good online resource! I don't know a whole lot about the car other than it's a green 1979 and its been parked for ten years. I'm going to have my hands full, as the elements haven't been so kind to the car. I am anxious to get it home and take a close look at it. I'm sure I'll have some questions, so wanted to introduce myself!

Thanks everybody. I'm looking forward to getting the car home and see what I got myself into. I'm hoping its not a complete basket case...but the price was good enough that I figure I can part it out and get my money back if it ends up being a total wreck!

All I know is I'm buying it from the original owner who drove it until 1999. He had some trouble with it and not being a mechanically inclined guy just parked it in the garage with 144k on the clock figuring he'd get around to doing something with it someday. Then came a divorce, the car ended up outside, deteriorated quickly, and here we are. I'm hoping he can remember enough details of the trouble he was having that I can get a good head start on figuring out the bigger issues. We'll see!

P.S. - the d is for Dan.

Welcome..these are fun cars to drive..You end very happy
till the infectious I want bug bites you. So get some of that
bug repellant. Youll be fine. You get a good luck from me.

The 79 is a good year not early n not late right in the middle.
You probly have a 5 spd snailshell tranny that nice cause its kind of
like an overdrive gear for the freeway.

Thanks guys! I'll get pics as soon as it gets home...looking like Saturday now though. Had a minor setback. I did talk to the owner a bit more last night though. He says he parked the car because it was "unreliable". There was no catastrophic failure or anything, he just says it was unreliable. He's not a wrench...sounds like the car just got old and he couldn't keep it up on his own. I do wish it had never gotten pushed outside though...a tree limb fell and busted the windshield and the interior got wet, and just some general neglect is showing. No major rust though, and the body looks pretty straight short of one small dent in the DS fender.

I do know its a manual trans, though I'm not sure which transaxle it has yet. I'll post pics asap!

Dan,
I'm in Maryland and have lots of bits and pieces. From what the folks on this board have been saying, unreliability usually relates to poor grounding and bum wiring. Do some reading here after you get it home and start diagnosing what you need to get it going.
Regards,
Chuck
