Past owners of my twofour have been, shall we say, less than respectful of the uniqueness of their German car. I had a car day today and discovered a list of things done over the years that varied from 'no clue' to 'not much clue'. I thought you might all like a bit of a laugh.

* The oil-breather hose was broken (I actually have known this for a while). So a piece of conduit was fitted over the break some unknown months ago. This has now been replaced.

* The washer tank had been "repaired" by coating it in fibreglass, giving it a wonderfully melted look. It also made it almost impossible to remove!

* The rear hatch struts had been replaced at some point by someone who had absolutely no idea why they the way they were. The new ones are upside down, identical and Japanese. And they blow the rear-demister fuse in nothing flat.

* The front of the driver's seat rails have been welded to the body. All of a third of an inch. i'm guessing this would have been probably be an attempt to appease a safety check on the seat mount.

* An aftermarket steering wheel had been fitted, which is nice. But they put the contact ring in the wrong way around so the blinker auto-cancel didn't work. And they wired the horn pad around the wrong way so they had to wrap all this extra electrical tape in there to keep it insulated.

On the plus side, I confirmed the AAV does actually work, particularly once cleaned from quite a few years gunge, and the boot to the throttle body replaced. I think it starts a little easier when cold, now.

Ain't old sports cars fun!

Wade.
