I read that the 933 used 928 calipers.
Has anyone tried this or are the period 928 calipers no better than 931 or 944 calipers? |

Where did you read that?
The D-Prod parts list at 924.org for the 933 indicates same-era 930 calipers, of which I have a pair. It's possible that a 1980 928 used the same calipers as a 1980 930, but I haven't cross-referenced PET to find out.
In any event, it's a moot point, because you can't bolt up the calipers that were used on the 933 to a 931. The caliper bolt pattern is 89mm vs. the standard 76mm for 931/944 (non-M030) calipers. More details and photos here. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Ya, that is what I figured as I read it since I had read 930 also before. Actually the calipers and rotors aren't on that list anyways.

that would just require different carriers right? tried the 930 carriers or 928 carriers? |

I assumed you were referring to the fronts. AFAIK, the rear caliper spacing is the same for all of the rear disc-based 924/931/944/951 calipers (e.g. the Brembos have the same bolt pattern as the single pots in the rear). The front calipers are where the problem lies. The 933 apparently had its own custom spindle (at least based on the part number). So you would either need 933 spindles, or you'd have to develop a custom adapter bracket. Hardly worth it for bolting up 30 year old calipers design. If you went to the expense and trouble of fabbing/purchasing adapter brackets, might as well go with Wilwoods or the Brembos. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

FWIW, I ran the part numbers mentioned by Dan in the other thread about 933 brake parts, and the calipers came back as late 70s/early 80s 911 SC calipers, which are two pot, and still available new for a reasonable sum. _________________ Toofah King Bad

On my car a street model D production Sebring which came with 4 disks and a 5 bolt pattern it had 928 brakes. They worked great. The only propblem was when I went to buy pads and they asked what model car I had and I replied a 924 then told them I need the 928 pads there was alwasy a discussion untill the parts department looked at the car and then they sold me the 928 pads. It wa a funny bbut true story one of many of that great car.

According to the FIA document, the Gr.4 homologisation for the 924 was with 48mm 2-pot callipers in the front. Just like contemporary 911:
Caliper typ M 69-76 76mm c-c
Caliper typ A 76-83
Caliper typ S 84-89
'A' calipers are stiffer than 'S'

I believe this is correct. I have a pair of these calipers, in steel, and the mounting holes match the toofah spindle. Also of note, the vented rotor is the same part as the 911. _________________ Toofah King Bad
