Last night I was moving cars around and have found that my 944S2 has a tappet noise comming from the back of the tappet cover. Normally this noise is there for about 10secs on cold start then goes away. Now with no amount of reving or ideling will the noise go away. Oil pressure is spot on...
So, I am getting some stuff from Pelican and they lst hydraulic lifters for the S2 for about $35. My question is, should I take a punt and throw one in the box for when I get time to pull the 944 apart, or is it likley to be something else. I looked at the cams and lifters about 5000kms ago, they all had no visable wear at all...
Thanks

Did you ever discover the cause and what fixed it? I may be having the same problem... _________________ 1987 924S, 5spd |

Yes, two lifters on the exhaust cam closest to the rear of the head had gone squidgy. Easy to tell as all others were rock solid.
Managed to remove the cam caps and loosen evrything else enough to slide the lifters past without removing the cam belt.
