Disconnect the battery!
Put it up on sticks or ramps
Remove the undertray (If fitted)
Unbolt the main cable
Undo the 2 bolts and remove the starter...
It's heavy so mind your head!

Shouldn't the starter just slide back and off the bell housing? I've changed many a F-150 starter but I can't get it to budge. I've even taken a rubber mallet to it, it still will not move!

My usual first suspect with a click but no start is a bad starter solenoid - and specifically, corroded switch contacts within the solenoid. The starter has to come out to change it.
Other possibilities are weak battery and/or poor connection/s at battery, alternator, grounds,... This stuff's easier than replacing the solenoid, so I'd have starter with them. -And of those, start with battery connections - remove, clean, re-attach..
Next try jump-starting.
-But you can have several problems at once - poor connections, and/or weak battery, and/or partly corroded solenoid switch, and sometimes improving just one might be enough to get it started, but just barely, so should go through it all and make sure everything's right.

I second Smoothie's analysis!

You guys have it all wrong! After disconnecting the battery, you put the car on a car lift! In this pic, I'm currently double parked. And no, I didn't stand on the stool to open the door!

Here's an over-exposed shot of cars, and all the metal shelving we recently put in. Most of the shelving space on the right has 931 parts on them!

You get more room to pull the starter if you remove the oil filter first. It's a good time to clean up/fix the wiring down there. Check out the harness from the battery that snakes down the firewall to the starter and also check the wiring from the starter to the alternator.

You also get more room without the oil filter adapter and the steering shaft in the way. Much easier than a RHD car. Stop whinging pussies!

its in the haynes manual but in mine i had to take off the 2 into 1 section of my exhaust for access to some of the housing strap bolts, put simply it a #### of a job to do in your driveway, we managed but it was a real pain without a lifter for easy access
