Any thoughts? Do the oil stats fail? _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Just thought I'd see if it was getting warm after a 20 mile/30 min mixed drive 30-70 mph) and it was cold. Admittedly I didn't check immediately (Maybe 5 mins) and it's relatively cool here (~10 C)but the upper line was just warm nearer the engine but the rest was stone cold. I was expecting it to be at least warm. The last 5 miles is 30 mph though
In addition the temp gauge is normally only on or below the first while line, it does get higher in traffic up to the third line then the fan kicks in.
Just wondering if it's worth dropping the oil and cleaning out the stat and oil cooler. (Comp air and blow it through or solvents?)
Ta

Yes, the thermostats fail. Classic symptoms. Yes, they are a B*TCH to get out and replace because the plug that holds them in is f'n impossible to remove; funny angle, dissimilar metals, lots of heat, yuk.
But they can still be had. I think I bought mine frpm Pelican. $40-ish maybe? And once you get the plug out, simple to replace. |

| I dunno, 80c maybe? I don't think there's more than one (IIRC its a 930 part) so you get factory, whatever that is/was... |
